Who We Are

For 50 years, The Guilford Press has had a singular purpose—to make a difference in the lives of our readers through the books that we publish. Many of our titles serve as references for clinicians, researchers, students, and educators that enrich their careers and help them do their jobs better. Others are vital resources for everyday readers that strengthen relationships, support positive change, and improve psychological well-being. All our books are science-based, backed by clinical research, and written by respected experts. Over five decades, much in the publishing industry has changed, yet Guilford’s ethos endures. We remain committed to first-rate scholarship, lasting relationships with authors and customers, and a culture where staff thrive.

Books That Break New Ground

Cognitive Therapy of Depression Guilford’s earliest publication was Cognitive Therapy of Depression by Aaron T. Beck, praised as “the most important book ever written in the field of cognitive therapy.” Guilford has continued this innovative trajectory, publishing numerous handbooks and manuals for new therapies that have gone on to revolutionize the field of psychology—including seminal works from the developers themselves: Marsha Linehan, on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); William R. Miller and Stephen Rollnick, on Motivational Interviewing (MI); Steven Hayes, on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); and Richard C. Schwartz, on Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Mind Over Mood: Second Edition: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think Bestselling consumer titles include Mind Over Mood by Christine A. Padesky and Dennis Greenberger, which has more than one million copies in print, and which the British Association of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies named the most influential cognitive therapy book ever written. Guilford also publishes books by Russell Barkley, leading authority on ADHD; Kristin Neff and Chris Germer, trusted mindfulness and self-compassion experts; and Christopher Fairburn, whose pioneering research on eating disorders lead to the inclusion of binge eating disorder in the DSM in 2013.

Bringing Words to Life: Second Edition: Robust Vocabulary Instruction In the field of literacy education, Guilford has published books by leading scholars such as Isabel Beck and Margaret McKeown, G. Michael Pressley, Kathy Ganske, Lesley Mandel Morrow, Susan B. Neuman, and Linda Gambrell. Among Guilford's authors and editors are 13 past presidents of the International Literacy Association and 47 members of the Reading Hall of Fame.
